Frequently Asked Questions

About Spend For Good

How does Spend For Good work?

The merchants we work with will pay a commission to Spend For Good for sending them customers, which then gets donated to the charity of your choice. We receive a small fee on top of the contribution amounts listed on our site to help us cover our basic operating costs.

Do I pay a higher amount for my purchases, in order to cover the cost of the charitable contribution?

Absolutely not. You will never pay a penny more than you would if you went directly to the retailers' websites. The money you help raise for charities comes directly from the retailers, not you! The online stores on our site pay us a commission for sending customers their way to make a purchase, and we donate that money to the charity of your choice.

Do I have to shop at specific online stores or buy certain products, in order to raise money for my chosen charity?

No. You can choose from hundreds of well-known retailers and purchase nearly anything on their site, and a percentage of the sale will be donated to the charity of your choice.

Is there a membership fee to join Spend For Good?

No! It's free to sign up and it doesn't cost anything extra to shop through Spend For Good.

Do I have to register to help raise money on Spend For Good?

No. If you prefer not to register, the money you help raise through your purchases will automatically be donated to the Featured Charity listed on our site. While your contributions will be included in our overall total, we will not be able to keep track of your individual contributions.

How much money will retailers contribute to my designated charity?

The contributions typically range between 1-15% of your purchase amount, but some online stores pay a flat fee. The percentage or flat fee each store will pay is listed next to their logo on our site. The contribution amount does not include taxes, shipping, gift wrapping or any other fees in addition to the item you purchased.

Are there any purchases that are ineligible to earn contributions?

Some retailers may exclude certain items, such as gift cards or certificates. Spend For Good will indicate any specific items that do not qualify for contributions on the individual store detail pages. Tax, shipping and gift wrapping are not included in the contribution amounts. In addition, some purchases you make using coupons may not be eligible to earn contributions.

Will my purchases earn contributions if I use gift certificates, store credit or coupons?

No. Retailers do not pay commissions on purchases that are made using gift certificates, store credit or coupons. Therefore, any purchases you make through Spend For Good with these will be ineligible for contributions to your chosen charity.

What if I return an item that I purchased through Spend For Good?

Once the retailer notifies us of a return, the contribution earned from that purchase is retracted. Therefore, we have to wait until the sale is final (typically 30-60 days) for those retailers which allow for returns before we can issue contribution checks to a user's designated charity.

How do the charities receive the donations?

We will distribute checks to the nonprofit organizations on our site on a quarterly basis, as long as they've earned a minimum of $25. (Some of the retailers on our site take up to 60 days to process payments.) For those nonprofits who don't reach the $25 minimum, their balance will roll over to the following payment cycle. Please note: Some retailers allow for returns, which means we must wait until the final sale date has passed before we can issue those checks.

How will you decide which organizations to feature on your site? Can users suggest new ones to add?

Our staff will search high and low for inspiring organizations. We will also draw on ideas from our users, so please feel free to email FeaturedCharity@spendforgood.com with suggestions.

Using Spend For Good

Why aren't my Amazon purchases showing up in my individual contribution tracker?

Unlike other stores on Spend For Good, Amazon has strict privacy restrictions that prevent us from being able to keep track of the individual purchases you make on Amazon.com. They do, however, provide us with detailed reports on how much money overall has been raised for each charity by our users. So while we're unable to include Amazon purchases in your individual contribution totals, rest assured that any contributions you generate through Amazon do get donated to your designated charity. These contributions are reflected in the Spend For Good total contributions (all Spend For Good users combined), as well as in the contribution totals displayed on the individual charity pages. We would love to be able to include Amazon purchases in your individual contribution totals and apologize that we are unable to do so under current Amazon policy!

What if I forget to go through Spend For Good before I shop? Will my purchases still benefit my chosen charity?
